Lil Baby recently opened up about narrowly avoiding legal trouble during the May 2022 arrest of Young Thug in connection to the YSL RICO case, revealing how close he came to being implicated. In an emotional conversation with Lil Yachty on the A Safe Place podcast last week, Baby shared that he was at Thug’s house the very day of the arrest but left just two hours before law enforcement arrived.
“What people don’t know — and I don’t even tell people — is I could’ve been with him,” Baby disclosed. “I was at his house the same day. Thank God I just happened to leave two hours early. That’ll mess your head up more than anything. Like damn, I gotta see bro go through this [and] that shit really could have been me.”
Reflecting on the situation, Baby emphasized the deep personal connection he shares with Young Thug, describing him as more than just a rap peer but someone from his everyday life. “These n-ggas I grew up with,” he said, underscoring the impact the incident had on him and the changes it inspired in his life.
The aftermath of the YSL RICO case has also strained relationships within the rap community, particularly following Gunna’s plea deal that led to his release last year. Speaking candidly on Charlamagne Tha God’s Out of Context series, Lil Baby confirmed that his relationship with Gunna has been severed.
“We don’t got no relationship. Nope,” he said firmly when asked about his former collaborator. When pressed on whether he’d join a studio session with Gunna if Young Thug requested it, Baby responded: “I don’t see that happening. I don’t know what nobody else will do, but as far as me.”
Despite speculation about whether he’s referenced Gunna in his music, Baby denied explicitly calling him out. Addressing rumors tied to lyrics from his track “350,” he explained: “That’s just the internet and what they gonna create. I talk about rats in every song I have since I started rapping. So now they just create a narrative, and I don’t even be talking about a n-gga.”
Released in December 2023, “350” features Baby rapping: “I know one day it’s gon’ hit me, bro ain’t never coming back/ Ain’t never say nothing ’bout it, n-gga, you know you a rat.” Months earlier, a leaked song snippet included what many interpreted as a shot at Gunna, with Baby defending Young Thug: “Pussy n-ggas taking pleas/ I know Slime ain’t happy.”
Lil Baby’s revelations highlight the emotional and professional complexities stemming from the YSL case, as well as his unwavering loyalty to Young Thug amid the ongoing fallout.
