Lil Baby and Gunna’s Musical Bond Seems Beyond Repair
In a candid conversation with Charlamagne tha God during his Out of Context interview series, Lil Baby addressed his strained relationship with Gunna and the chances of collaborating again. The Atlanta rapper didn’t hold back when asked if fans could expect a sequel to their 2018 hit mixtape Drip Harder. “We ain’t got no relationship,” Baby stated bluntly.
When Charlamagne referenced online chatter claiming Lil Baby “can’t make hits without Gunna,” Baby dismissed it with confidence. “The internet will say anything,” he retorted. “You know how many hits I got? That don’t even make sense.”
Charlamagne then proposed a hypothetical scenario involving Young Thug, suggesting Thug might request Baby to collaborate with Gunna in the studio. Baby shut down the idea. “I don’t see that happening,” he said, clarifying that he doesn’t expect Thug to make such a request.
The tension between Baby and Gunna extends beyond music. Fans speculated Baby’s 2023 track “350” contained a veiled diss at Gunna with the lyric, “Ain’t never say nothin’ ’bout it, nigga, you know you a rat.” Baby downplayed the controversy, insisting he wasn’t targeting anyone specifically. “I talk about rats in every song I had since I started rappin’,” he explained. “They just be creating a narrative.”
The rift became public in late 2023 when Baby instructed his DJ to cut off Drip Too Hard during a performance, declaring, “F—k the rats, turn this sh—t off.” The fallout also highlighted divisions within Young Thug’s YSL camp, with Thug’s cryptic tweet, “whateva Wham say goes,” and his father’s public defense of Gunna.
Interestingly, Young Thug reportedly needed a judge’s approval to record with Gunna as part of his release conditions.
Lil Baby’s highly anticipated fourth solo album WHAM (Who Hard as Me) is set to drop on January 3, 2025, but it’s clear that fans shouldn’t hold their breath for a reunion with Gunna anytime soon.
