Lil Durk has said that he doesn’t really like Hip-Hop “lyricists.”
The OTF rapper said those things in an interview with Rap Caviar on Spotify. When talking about his song “All My Life” with J. Cole, he said that even though Cole “went crazy,” he still doesn’t like MCs whose words make you think.
“He lost it.” Durk said this about Cole’s skills: “I had to listen to it like four times.” “You know I’m not a big fan of rappers who write their own lyrics.” Cole’s songs, like those by Jay-Z and Cole, have to be played 50 times to fully understand what they mean.
He said this about another famous MC: “Like if you listen to Lil Wayne right now, you heard some stuff 10 years ago that you just get today.” But Cole did give me one of those lines, and I appreciate it. Because he really doesn’t need to. Anything was possible for him to give us.Durk has worked with many “lyricists” before, such as J.I.D., Cordae, Chance The Rapper, Talib Kweli, Nas, and more. The man from Chicago told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1’s New Music Daily that he chose Cole to be on the record by himself.
He said, “I just go to the studio and make music no matter what mood I’m in.” “I feel like things went well with Dr. Luke, do you know what I mean?” I felt that first song, and I thought, “Man, I want J. Cole on this.” I made it happen. I talked to him to see how he’s doing and to see how you’re doing. You wait for him to ask to be on the song at the right time. “Make the song big.”A lot of people on social media talked about Durk’s feelings about MCs. A lot of them said that he doesn’t get Hip-Hop’s “core.”
“[Sad] day when mcs don’t listen to real lyrics,” one critic wrote in the comments part of Rap Caviar. “I like Durk’s music but cmon bro,” said another. That’s why I don’t understand why people in my age don’t know what hip hop is all about.
