As of 2021, Dr. Dre and Nicole Young were no longer married. The split took a long time, and in the end, the producer had to settle for an unbelievable $100 million. It’s been a few years since the divorce was finalized, but it looks like Dre may have to pay even more. An attorney for divorces named Dr. Charles J. Sophy says that the producer harassed him while he worked with Dr. Dre and Young. His lawsuit against Dr. Dre is for $10 million. He says that Dre sent him “ongoing barrage of threats.” The news came out in Billboard on October 9, the same day that Sophy’s lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County Court.
During the breakup process, Dr. Sophy said that Dr. Dre used him as a punching bag. “Rather than treating the mediation process as an opportunity for healing,” the law suit said. Dr. Sophy became the target of Dr. Drew’s anger over the settlement.”The counselor claimed that the harassment lasted over a year, and included threats of physical violence.””His] frustrations that came out in the form of a campaign that went on for almost a year,” the suit said. “[There were] late-night texts, threats of intimidation and violence, and homophobic rhetoric.”
Dr. Sophy says that he has been in touch with Dr. Dre and his wife since 2018. However, after a long time of not talking, Dre is said to have texted her. The producer, who used to be in the band NWA, is said to have then asked Dr. Sophy about privacy. “I’m not going anywhere,” he is said to have said. “Until you explain to me why you tried to talk [an unnamed person] into saying negative things about me to the media.” Sophy categorically rejected these claims. The counselor also said they were “baseless” and “far-fetched.”
Dr. Sophy and his lawyer, Christopher Frost, want to be compensated for their losses. Along with a protection order, they want $10 million to make sure Dr. Sophy is safe. This last point is very important to Dr. Sophy because he brought up Dr. Dre’s past of allegedly being violent toward others. Over the years, Dr. Dre has been accused of beating up several women, including his ex-wife and writer Dee Barnes. The rap producer has said sorry to everyone about what happened with Barnes. He has refused to change his mind, though, and says he did not beat his ex-wife.
