Jaden Smith once caused conflict with his parents when he wore a dress like a girl

Actor Will Smith is worried about his teenage son’s genderless dressing style.

Jaden Smith – the star who rose to fame with the movie The Karate Kid – has a hobby of wearing women’s dresses when going out or attending events. In 2016, Jaden was also chosen as one of the advertising models for Louis Vuitton women’s fashion. The actor born in 1998 has received mixed opinions about this unusual style.

Jaden’s mother, actress Jada Pinkett Smith, also confessed that at first she and her husband had an argument about their son’s dressing style. “He had concerns about it,” Jada said on the TV show on June 7. “I remember Will calling me and asking, ‘Have you talked to Jaden about this, why is he still wearing dresses?’, and I said, ‘I have talked to him, but he’s very happy to wear it.'”

Jada Pinkett gave Jaden the freedom to choose his own style of dress, and Will Smith later respected his son’s decision. Jada said it was a very brave decision for Jaden, who is “a black man and the son of a very masculine hip-hop star”.

Jada also explained Jaden’s “feminine” fashion sense: “He said he wanted to wear dresses to convey a spirit of freedom to kids, to let people think about things that are beyond their own framework and not be afraid that they might be bullied and ridiculed for doing so”.

Also appearing on the show, Jaden Smith revealed: “I wear dresses to look stylish. And people will say: ‘He’s a creative person with different ideas'”.

Jaden Smith also caused his parents to argue about another issue when he underwent rigorous training for the 2010 film The Karate Kid. While Will Smith wanted his son to train hard for a martial arts film, Jada was very worried because she just wanted Jaden to have a normal, peaceful childhood like other children. The actress said: “I remember sitting on the set with Will and having a conflict about Jaden. I understand why men send their children to warrior-style training camps, but it’s really unfair and difficult for a mother to sit and watch her child do things like that.

Will and I argued constantly, at one point we argued over Jaden.” However, Will and his wife tried to be harmonious in raising their children. Jaden and his younger sister Willow Smith were so passionate about the arts that Jada could only encourage them. “Despite these battles, I always try to find balance when it comes to parenting,” the mother of two teen stars admits. “I always tell them, ‘You worked so hard and you did so well. I’m so proud of you!'”
