Birdman said he signed Young Thug so Lil Wayne could express himself freely, affirming that he always stands by Lil Wayne

In a new episode of his “Renaissance Man” show, Birdman talked with Jalen Rose on a yacht in Miami. You can watch the whole thing below.

During their talk, Baby talked about the people who inspired him, how he started Cash Money Records when he was 16, how he signed B.G. when he was 13, Mannie Fresh, the Big Tymers, the “#1 Stunna” nickname, where the name “Birdman” came from, artificial intelligence, sports, the start of the “Bling Bling” era, his hip-hop career, and how Pharrell put together the “What Happened To That Boy” song.

The co-founder of Cash Money Records also talked about how Lil Wayne accidentally shot himself while writing a rap. He also shared the moment he believes changed Wayne’s life and remembered the first time the CEO of Young Money Records showed him Nicki Minaj and Drake.

Later in the conversation, Birdman said that he signed Young Thug and made Rich Gang so that Tunechi could kick back and relax, just like Tune did for him. But Wayne didn’t want to do that because he has a “Kobe mentality” and wanted to “win all championships” and eat anyone in front of him!
