Lil Durk’s new album is still being built up, and he has released a new song called “Turn Up a Notch.”
The Chicago rap star does just that on the track, which came out on September 25 and features skittering, guitar-plucking music from Southside and Smatt Sertified.
They wrote me off in 2012, so I had to step it up. Back then, those jerks were fuckin’ for clout, so I had to step it up. I think you’re happy, but I know you doubted me, so I had to step it up. On the song, Smurk raps, “I had to turn up a notch/ Sleepin’ on porches, I served off the balcony.”
The accompanying video, created by Jerry Production, shows the OTF lead singer enjoying the fruits of his hard work. Sexyy Red and Hunxho make cameo appearances.Lil Durk has been hinting at his new album Love Songs 4 the Streets 3 since the beginning of the year, and “Turn Up a Notch” seems to be the first song from it.
In January, he wrote on X (which used to be Twitter) that the project was over: “Love songs 4 the streets 3 done… ima be on asap.”Along with his post, there was a picture of Kanye West’s Instagram Story that said, “Tell Durk to turn on his Instagram, it’s time to drop.”
Durk has shared “Old Days” and “Went Hollywood For a Year,” two more songs from the record. He talked about his past drug use on the second one, which was also made by Southside, Smatt Sertified, and Wasa.
“I miss the good old days, the old ways, my famous past. I was taking so many pills, I was so high, I really abused it. I started selling Percs, then I used them,” he said. The 31-year-old also remembered seeing the autopsy of his late friend King Von after pictures of the body were posted online: “The autopsy of Von’s body made me throw up.”
The follow-up to 2019’s Love Songs 4 the Streets 2 will be Love Songs 4 the Streets 3. It will also be Durk’s first full-length album since Almost Healed last year.
