Though they are now closer than ever, Will Smith and his son Trey Smith didn’t always have that kind of relationship.

Will Zampino wed Sheree Zampino early in his career, and the couple soon had a son named Trey. Even though Will claims that at the age of 24, he realized the devastating effects of parenting right away, he distanced himself from the position when he and Sheree got divorced two years later.

Looking back, Will said he thought that by keeping the relationship a little distance from each other, Trey wouldn’t have to deal with cоnflict between his parents and that he would get in touch with him when his son was ready.
