Beyoncé’s Father Claims Race Was Behind Her Being Shut Out Of Country Music Awards

Beyoncé’s father believes that the reason his daughter isn’t receiving any nominations for the 2024 Country Music Awards, even with her chart-topping country album, is all for her race.

Tuesday, September 10, Mathew Knowles spoke with TMZ after the nominations were revealed the previous day.

Knowles says he isn’t shocked by the rejection, pointing out that Bey didn’t get a warm reception when she performed with the Dixie Chicks at the 2016 CMA Awards and that she hasn’t gotten an apology yet.

He told the site, “[The voters are] showing it still comes down to White and Black.” “There are more white people in America, and regrettably, they don’t vote based on accomplishments and ability; sometimes, voting is still a white and black issue.”

“There’s no accountability for people in America who are not accepting of other cultures,” he said in closing.

On Monday, September 9, the Country Music Awards released its nominees, and Queen Bey received none. But Shaboozey, who gained widespread recognition with his two episodes on Cowboy Carter, was a nominee for Single of the Year for his song “A Bar Song (Tipsy).”

As soon as the news came, he posted on X, “Thank you Beyoncé for opening a door for us, starting a conversation, and giving us one of the most innovative country albums of all time!”

The rejection infuriated Bey’s supporters.

Beyoncé Legion, a fansite, commented, “Despite her record-breаking success with TEXAS HOLD ‘EM and #COWBOYCARTER, the CMA’s have once again deferred to those in the industry who prefer to deny Black artists the recognition they deserve, failing to nominate Beyoncé in a single category this year.”

At the time, Billboard stated that as of Friday, March 29, 2024, the album had officially surpassed all previous records for most albums streamed on Spotify in a single day. Before the album’s release, the project’s “Texas Hold Em” was streamed more than 200 million times.

Additionally, Cowboy Carter’s debut has been the greatest to date, garnering more first-day streams on Amazon Music worldwide than any of her prior releases. According to the site, the album also records the highest number of first-day streams for a country album by a female artist in Amazon Music history.

In its first week, the album sold 407,000 equivalent album units, debuting at the top of the Billboard 200 chart. At the time, it was the highest sales week of 2024, but Taylor Swift’s most recent release has since surpassed it.

The Houston native’s career total of Billboard Hоt 100 songs is at 106, with twenty-three of the album’s 27 tracks reaching the chart.  Since the Hоt 100 was first introduced in 1958, she is currently just the 17th artist and the third woman to receive over 100 entries.
