Swedish fashion house Acne Studios made its runway debut at Paris Fashion Week back in February, showcasing two staple textiles from their collection. I’ve always had a thing for denim and leather. At the time, creative director Jonny Johansson stated, “It’s the spirit of Acne Studios.” “Leather and denim go together like armor when you want to feel tough. It feels correct every time. When it came time for the glossy ad for the collection, Johansson chose who best embodied that philosophy. None other than Willow Smith, novelist, musician, and activist.
Willow is seen posing in front of a metallic backdrop while sporting powerful silhouettes from the AW24 collection in these photos, which were taken by Jordan Hemingway and shared today on the label’s Instagram. Johansson praised Willow as a “cultural icon” and said that she was the ideal choice to lead the campaign in a statement released along with it. Willow also mentioned attending the PFW event in February in the same statement, saying, “My favorite memory might just be the impromptu jam session in the basement of the bar at the after-party.” Willow also gave credit to the brand’s creative staff.
This week’s other fashion news included the announcement that French designer Haider Ackermann will take over as creative director of Tom Ford, the official unveiling of Liam Gallagher as the face of Stone Island after he served as the brand’s unofficial mascot for decades, an interview with FRUiTS legend Shoichi Aoki about shooting the new Palace x Vivienne Westwood collaboration, and the revelation of who actually won this summer’s celebrity fashion Olympics.
A few weeks prior to the label’s PFW show, news broke of Glenn Martens’ shocking departure from Y/Project; Chopova Lowena and Climax Books collaborated on a capsule inspired by vintage love letters; Dazed Clubber Jess Fine captured the sultry style at the queer festival Body Movements; Miranda July took on the role of Prada’s agony aunt on a dedicated hotline; and since fashion month is quickly approaching, Dazed Fashion prepared a cheat sheet for the upcoming New York shows.
