On Friday, August 9th, Polo G’s HOOD POET, his return album, will be released. The rapper has claimed that this 18-song project, which will be his first in nearly three years, is one of his most introspective works to date.
The “Martin & Gina” creator discussed the album and how his sobriety affected his songwriting during an interview with “The Breakfast Club” on Monday (Aug. 5). Pills were my go-to when I first started my career. Drugs allowed me to compose many excellent tunes. He revealed, “Oh, that’s the only way I’ma [make good music]” at times. “I get the most out of my music when I’m drunk right now.”
When asked if he was influenced by family, management, or a health crisis, Polo G claimed the choice was totally his. “Every time, it’s me. The mental health issues associated with [using vices] were addressed. When you drink excessively, it’s usually because you’re attempting to escape a low point in your life. His decision to stay away from drugs was influenced by his experience and his desire to avoid being in that state of mind again.Polo G later admitted in the interview that he was trying to kick his drug habit, but that it went “hand in hand” with his lifestyle as a rapper. “It’s like a way out sometimes,” he said.
The Chicagoan HOOD POET dropped songs including “Barely Holdin’ On,” “We Uh Shoot” (which included Lil Durk), and “Angels In The Sky” before the full-length album dropped. According to reports, he has not yet revealed the album’s tracklist, but confirmed guests include GloRilla, Future, The Kid LAROI, 42 Dugg, G Herbo, Hunxho, and Fridayy.
A month ago, his residence in Southern California was raided by police, delaying the release of the LP from its original September 2023 release date.
