This week, Polo G’s fourth studio album—which fans have been eagerly anticipating—got a revised title and a release date. According to a press release for its new single “We Uh Shoot” with Lil Durk, the abbreviation “He Overcame Obstacles During Pain Or Emotional Trauma” is used instead of the original name, Hood Poet.
And on “We Uh Shoot,” Polo teams up with Lil Durk, the ideal embodiment of that idea. Even though they both spent a lot of time on the streets as kids, the two Chicago rappers have since retreated from that side of their work. In their music, they express a more positive view than many of their Second City peers, who embraced a more pessimistic outlook during the drill days. However, they do rap extensively about how their experiences affected them, including trauma.
After being announced about a year ago in August 2023, H.O.O.D. P.O.E.T. was delayed a few weeks later due to Polo’s arrest for charges of kidnapping, robbery, and assault. The album has had a bit of a rocky release. His return to the spotlight came in February with “Sorrys & Ferraris,” but he was once again sidetracked by legal issues—this time an arrest in New York on weapons charges.
Fans can breathe a sigh of relief because Polo has bought himself more time to avoid controversy by moving the album’s release date up a week.
