The 6 God has reverted to his lyrical roots.Drake just won’t quit. Just like other rappers who announce retirements, he announces breaks from music, and none of them stick. The critically acclaimed Scary Hours 3 was the last album the 6 God released before he announced he was taking a break. It seems like he’s reentering a similar frame of mind. Drake content has been plenty as of late, but on July 31’s Ebro In the Morning podcast, Ebro dropped a bombshell. According to him, the Toronto rapper is about to release an album in the near future.
Ebro was forthright with the details he provided. He spoke on the podcast to confirm that Drake is currently recording. Hosts learned that Drake had a project coming out this year, he informed them. Laura Stylez joined in, implying that the release date is approaching soon. She made the bold claim, “I heard that it’s coming sooner than we think.” Peter Rosenberg, the third host of the pod, provided the most intriguing piece of information. He asserted that Drizzy and Conductor Williams had been working together in the studio, producing music at a rapid pace. “I also heard that he has a whole project’s worth of music done with Conductor Williams,” said he. “Which is the opposite [of recent Drake songs], very hip-hoppy.”
The chemistry between Drake and Conductor Williams is legendary, as any fan of For All the Dogs can attest. Many people think that “8AM In Charlotte,” one of Drake’s finest songs of the decade, was produced by Williams. The Scary Hours 3 episode “Stories About My Brother” was also created by him. Drizzy also delivers some of his best rhyming in a long time on this track. People will be going all lyrical about Drake if what the Ebro In the Morning crew says is accurate. We hope that, given their history, the majority of Williams’ beats make it into the album, but it’s conceivable that some won’t.
Williams, the conductor, spoke with Complex in 2023 about his time spent working with Drake. “[Drake] is a crafts person,” someone remarked. And an artist as well. It was the primary connection. To that extent, the regard was reciprocated. I finally felt safe enough to send him the thoughts I’d always had since he made me feel so at ease being myself. The producer considered Drizzy to be among the best of his generation. “You got the greatest, one of the greatest artists,” said he. One of the most influential people of my generation was a major influence on my writing, and I will say it again. How about we try to catch lightning in a bottle?
