Rakim returns after 15 years with his first album, playing a special role in making an impression on the audience

On Friday, July 26, Rakim released his first album since 2009’s The Seventh Seal, G.O.D’s Network – REB7RTH. His main involvement on the record might surprise even his most loyal fans.

Although the God MC contributes vocals (lyrics and/or hooks) to six of the seven tracks on the album, his primary role was not that of a rapper but rather of a producer. In addition, he offered scratches.

“I always felt a strong connection to making beats,” Ra told Grammy.com. However, I have reached a stage where I am self-assured in my output. I jumped at the chance to create the album when it came my way.

Kurupt, Masta Killa, Method Man, and B.G. are just a few of the many guest artists on G.O.D.’s Network—REB7rth. Moreover, executive producer Matt “M80” Markoff graciously included contributions from four rappers who have passed away.

Aside from DMX, Nipsey Hussle, Fred the Godson, and Prodigy all have rhymes. As Markoff put it, “every one of the vocals was either in my stash or under my ownership.”In unrelated news, Rakim recently asked Will Smith to collaborate on the hit single “Summertime” after Smith admitted that he “was trying to sound like” the Paid In Full icon.

While conversing with the iconic rapper backstage at last year’s CBS’ A Grammy Salute to 50 Years of Hip Hop TV special, Smith made the confession.”I was truly attempting to mimic your sound on ‘Summertime,'” he informed Rakim. I couldn’t obtain my ‘happy-go-lucky’ high voice because I screamed all night. The producer merely stated, “Hey, hand over that Rakim shit.”

In celebration of the 33rd anniversary of the album Homebase, which was co-written by Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff, and shared on Instagram on Tuesday (July 23), Rakim made an intriguing request in the comments area.

“Peace Will!!” he wrote. Stay on your jam, man! Summertime Part 2 is here, and I’ll be your dance partner! Laugh out loud.

Many of Smith’s followers were enthusiastic about the proposal, with one writing: “yesssss @willsmith & @djjazzyjeff please make this happen!!!” in response to the idea, even though Smith has not yet responded.
