In anticipation of his upcoming album, Big Sean has shared a sneak peek of a collaboration he has yet to release, featuring Kanye West, his former label boss.
On Monday (July 15), the rapper from Detroit took to Instagram Live to give fans a taste of some new music. Among the tracks was a purported Kanye production titled “Fighting Fires.”
Sean hinted that Ye and Ty Dolla $ign’s long-awaited Vultures 2 album would feature the song.
The 36-year-old rapper can be heard in the excerpt rapping: “We in this one, concentrated, will we? / Fuck that overnight success, I want it over life / I’m overseeing what I’m seeing, fuck an oversight / From the other side of the screen like a poltergeist / I’m in this bitch dropping jewels like I’m off the ice / They had to name they son Sean cuz the boy that bright, right?”In response to a fan’s question about when they might expect a release, Sean also dropped hints that new music might be dropping this week.
While on tour with girlfriend Jhené Aiko and their one-year-old baby, the “Bounce Back” MC also discussed the difficulties of keeping clean and completing his new album.
He said, “I’m not gon’ lie; I’ve been having a hard fucking time”. My head is spinning from all the overthinking I’ve done in this studio attempting to complete this album. Oh, and I’ve been making an effort to stay sober, so I’m out here raw-dogging his emotions, man.
As for why, I don’t know. In 2022, I decided to cut down or quit drinking because it was ruining my life. If you suffer from anxiety like I do, you know how depressing it is to constantly be thinking “what do I have to do?” and “how am I going to do it?” when you’re under the influence of alcohol.
What I enjoy most about this album, he continued, is… There are a lot of facets to who I am. It has several layers, much like I do. Every morning, I meditate. However, in the studio, I also have straps—no, not those straps; I store firearms. What the heck I’ve been through over the last many years is essentially captured on this album.
Meanwhile, Sean has stated that his forthcoming project showcases his “best music” and, although it will have “some good features,” it will be a more solo affair in contrast to his previous endeavors. After a highly publicized split in 2021, Big Sean’s return to collaboration with Kanye West is a significant change.
The “worst” thing West has ever done, according to West, was to sign Sean to G.O.O.D. Music, which he discussed on Drink Champs.Permit me to narrate. He declared, “I deserve to be here because I signed Big Sean.” He had already chosen that this would be the inscription on his headstone when he died.
His mother is someone I know. I’ve had an impact on this man’s family. It is disheartening that the Democrats wasted no time attacking John Legend and Big Sean, who were actually the ones who changed their lives, when I ran for office. Plus, I’m not cool with either of them, so they should probably apologize to me.
In response, Sean said, “I love Kanye, bro,” and claimed that Ye owed him a number of million dollars. Because of the chance he gave me and everything else, I love him. But I believed his words were full of garbage.
