Shaboozey gets his first Billboard 𝘏𝘰𝘵 100 No. 1 with “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”
According to a source from Monday (July 8), Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” became his first No. 1 on the Billboard Hоt 100. Since its April release, the song and music video have racked up over 69 million views on YouTube.
This was a historic moment for the Virginia native, as he became the first Black man to ever dominate the Hоt 100 and Hоt Country Songs charts at the same time. Coming so soon after Beyoncé’s “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” reached new heights of fаme, he becomes the second Black artist in total to accomplish the accomplishment.
Shaboozey had been wanting to flip a song from the 2000s for a while, he told Billboard. We were like, “Oh, s**t!” after I remarked, ‘Everybody at the bar is getting tipsy.’ The producer took up the guitar and began strumming chords; from there, we began composing, free-spiritedly expressing ourselves creatively. The single “Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going”—which peaked at number one—was the first album release for the Virginia native. On “My Fault,” “Drink Don’t Need No Mix,” and “Last Of My Kind,” respectively, Noah Cyrus, BigXthaPlug, and Paul Cauthen were featured on the 12-song offering.
You might have heard Shaboozey on Cowboy Carter’s “SPAGHETTII” and “SWEET * HONEY * BUCKIIN'”—two songs that helped propel him to stardom. He went into detail about the teamwork by saying, “Everyone’s working at the same time and [in] different rooms, and I came in a couple of days and recorded some parts.” Later on, [Beyoncé] heard them and thought they were good. I love how you have no idea if your contribution was successful until right before the end.
With “different parts of different things and different bridges,” Beyoncé “likes to put things together, always experimenting with the sound, so very free-form over there,” Shaboozey added.
