Putting away the jokes, this is yet another fantastic direction the WNBA is taking.
More and more people are paying attention to the WNBA this season. Marketing your brand gets much easier when you have a global star like Caitlin Clark. As he pulled up to cheer on his hometown Chicago Sky (6-9), Lil Durk is beginning to understand what the league is creating. Perhaps the most tҺrilling game of the season was last night’s victory by Angel Reese and her team over the Indiana Fever (7-11). The Sky worked their way back into the game after falling behind by 15 points at the third quarter’s finish. Eventually, with 27.8 seconds left to hold on, they surged up four points, 88-87.
A key contributor to their victory was Angel Reese, who contributed 25 points, 16 rebounds, and an efficient 8-12 shooting performance. Halftime performance by Lil Durk might have also served as a motivator. In addition to that, Vic Mensa and G Herbo were there to promote the Juneteenth event. As reported by AllHipHop, Smurf showed his affection for the squad by joining them in the locker room after they won the huge game. Now we’re locked in. It was a good game today, and I’ll be there to cheer you on at future games, Durk promised. The Chicagoan’s enthusiasm isn’t new; he was the one who first embraced Reese and Kamilla Cardoso as teammates.
The supporters couldn’t help but find humor in what should have been a heartfelt occasion for the club and the league. It was Lil Durk’s fashion sense and stature that were at issue here. The internet claims that the hitmaker is 5 feet 7 inches tall, which is rather short in comparison to many WNBA players. The eight-inch height difference between Reese and X users was immediately pointed up, as Reese is 6’3″. Laughter ensued when Durk and the Sky forward posed together for a photo. Some thought he was attempting to pass himself off as a European political leader, while others thought he was just wearing a Snuggie.
How do you feel about the ridicule that Lil Durk endured while cheering for the Chicago Sky? In your view, who made the funniest joke? In the next few years, will the WNBA grow into a significant sports powerhouse? If not, why? Have we seen the finest WNBA game of the year thus far?
