While strokes are generally associated with older adults, 10 to 15 percent occur in younger individuals. This number has increased over recent decades. A 2016 study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association found a 43.8 percent rise in hospitalization rates for acute ischemic strokes — caused by blооd clots blocking vessels to the brain — among patients aged 25 to 44 between 2000 and 2010.
Several factors contribute to the rising incidence of strokes in young adults, including high blооd pressure, smoking, diabetes, and recreational Ԁrug and alcоhоl use.
