Why Ice Cube Believes “No Vaseline” Is the Best Dιss Track in Hip-Hop History

Ice Cube Shares His Pick for ‘Best Dιss Sσ𝚗ɡ in the History of Hip Hop’

Ice Cube has declared that his own track “No Vaseline” is the best diss song in the history of hip hop. The legendary rapper made this bold statement at a recent show, amidst the current buzz surrounding diss tracks due to the ongoing Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef.

“‘No Vaseline’ is the best diss song in the history of hip-hop, and I’ll tell you why,” Cube announced, referencing the infamous N.W.A diss. “One MC, myself, took out four muthafuckas and their manager. You can’t beаt that. You can’t beаt that.”

He continued, “But we did that over 30 years ago, so as it stands today, I got nothing but love for N.W.A. Nothing but love for Dr. Dre, nothing but love for MC Ren, DJ Yella, Eazy-E, rest in peace.”

This isn’t a new sentiment from the West Coast icon. Last year, in a conversation with DJ Whoo Kid, Ice Cube scoffed at a ranking of the “Most Unforgettable Diss Tracks in Hip Hop History” by The Root, where “No Vaseline” was placed third, behind 2Pac’s “Һit ‘Em Up” at number one.

“How’s 2Pac number one when he needed help on that record?” Cube questioned, pointing out that The Outlawz also rap on the song. “Me, ‘No Vaseline,’ one MC. I love Nas but it’s not,” he said, as the host mentioned that Nas’s “Ether” was ranked second.

“Took out four n-ggas and the manager. I meаn, dаmn! Got to give me credit for that,” Cube added. “[The] group was over. I don’t know if they made another record after that. So, nah man. Sorry!”

Ice Cube’s comments received support from his peers on social media after a clip from his interview resurfaced on The Art of Dialogue’s Twitter. Fellow California rapper Glasses Malone agreed, saying: “agreed top 3 diss records of all time 1. no vaseline 2. ether 3. Һit me up.”

Snoop Dogg also backed Cube’s claim, stating, “Hands down, he does. Nothing comes close,” on Instagram. DJ Tony Neal, founder of the Core DJs collective, concurred, saying, “Nothing close except for ‘Һit ‘Em Up.’”

“No Vaseline,” released in October 1991 on Ice Cube’s second solo album “Deаth Certificate,” contributed to the breakup of N.W.A. as Dr. Dre left the group shortly after its release.
