In an exclusive revelation, Mike Epps unveils Ice Cube’s ambitious plan to transform the iconic “Friday” movies into a stage play

Mike Epps has disclosed that Ice Cube is considering turning the iconic “Friday” film franchise into a stage play. In an exclusive interview, Epps mentioned that Cube aims to adapt the beloved comedy series for live performances touring across the country.

Epps, known for his roles in the sequels “Next Friday” and “Friday After Next,” shared insights into Cube’s ambitious plan during an episode of PEOPLE in 10, where he discussed his HGTV series “Buying Back the Block” with his wife Kyra. Despite not being part of the original 1995 “Friday” film, Epps joined the franchise in subsequent installments.

According to Epps, Cube is exploring the possibility of incorporating actors like Chris Tucker and Katt Williams into the stage adaptation. Tucker, known for his role as Smokey in the original film, declined to star in the sequels due to what Cube described as “religious reasons.” Instead, Epps portrayed Craig’s cousin in the subsequent films.

Williams, on the other hand, appeared in “Friday After Next,” the third installment of the franchise. Epps expressed enthusiasm for Cube’s idea, acknowledging its unconventional nature but believing that it could turn out to be a success if executed well.

Ice Cube co-wrote and starred in the original “Friday,” which followed the misadventures of two friends, Craig and Smokey, played by Cube and Tucker, respectively. The film gained a cult following for its humor and memorable characters.

Despite Cube’s interest in expanding the franchise with a stage play and potential new films, he has faced challenges from Warner Bros. Pictures, which owns the rights to the series. Cube revealed on Mike Tyson’s podcast that despite having written two screenplays for a fourth “Friday” film, the studio has been hesitant to greenlight the project.

If Cube’s plan comes to fruition, fans can look forward to experiencing the beloved “Friday” franchise in a new and exciting format.
