Snoop Dogg Wants Lakers to Sign Warriors’ Klay Thompson This Offseason

Snoop Dogg Wants Lakers to Sign Warriors’ Klay Thompson This Offseason

Following their elimination from the playoffs at the end of April, the Los Angeles Lakers are gearing up for a busy offseason. One potential target for the Lakers is Golden State Warriors’ four-time champion Klay Thompson. Thompson has not secured an extension with the Warriors and is likely to test free agency.

The past few years have been challenging for Thompson, who has dealt with significant injuries, including a torn Achilles and ACL. These setbacks have affected his performance as the elite 3-and-D player that earned him future Hall of Fаme status. Nonetheless, several teams are expected to pursue the sharpshooter in an attempt to lure him away from Golden State.

A notable advocate for Thompson joining the Lakers is rapper and devoted Lakers fan Snoop Dogg. On The Stephen A. Smith Show, Snoop expressed his hopes:

“I’m hopeful that we can get us a Klay Thompson. His dad is Mychal, he works for the Lakers, it’s an easy transit down the road.”

This connection is intriguing as Klay’s father, Mychal Thompson, concluded his career with the Lakers and now serves as a radio commentator for 710 AM ESPN LA. Snoop also highlighted that the Warriors may no longer be the best fit for Thompson:

“I meаn, he doesn’t fit with them anymore. They’re trying to minimize him. He needs to be on a team where he is wide open, and we love getting him that look. Right now, he’s figҺting to get the ball. And that’s not what he does.”

The Lakers consistently need shooters to complement LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and Thompson would be an ideal addition. However, signing him would be financially challenging. The Lakers would need to clear enough cap space for the mid-level exception, possibly requiring the departure of D’Angelo Russell, and even then, it might not suffice.

Teams with cap space, such as the Orlando Magic, have already been linked to Thompson. The Magic, an emerging Eastern Conference team, could use his оffensive skills and veteran leadership to support rising stars Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner.

Klay Thompson: Playoff Series Against Lakers Still ‘Stings Bad’

The Lakers and Warriors have had intense matchups over the past few seasons, including last year’s second-round playoff series, where the Lakers defeated the defending champions in six games. Thompson admitted that losing that series still “stings bad.”
