Lil Durk Faces Criticism for Acquiring Large Chain Symbolizing Muslim Faith
Lil Durk’s recent embrace of the Muslim faith has stirred controversy, particularly among some adherents who consider his choice of jewelry inappropriate.
Taking to his Instagram Stories on Thursday (May 2), the rapper showcased a custom-made “Star of Islam” chain, intending to express his religious beliefs.
However, followers on Our Generation Music’s Instagram post concerning the matter highlighted that wearing jewelry, especially gold, is considered haram (forbidden) for meš according to Islamic teachings. This perspective is reinforced by Qu’ran 9:34, which cautions against hoarding gold and silver and not spending it in the way of God.
In April, Lil Durk solicited artists interested in assisting him with organizing an event to be held at the Bears’ stadium.
“IāmŠ° do a Smurkchella next year at the bears stadium in Chicago,” he announced. “itās gone be a stop the viŠ¾lence event and we gone split half the money with different non profits from big to small. I need help I need every artist who locked in with me to help save these kids.”
He proceeded to tag the non-profit organization he established and remarked: “@neighborhoodheroesfoundation will help put it together letās go this my way of giving back without saying it to look cool.”
Lil Durk inaugurated his Neighborhood Heroes non-profit organization in 2020 and has consistently contributed to his community in the ensuing years.
In 2022, in collaboration with a non-profit called Chicago Votes, they distributed 29,000 bottles of hand sanitizer to inmates and staff at the Illinois Department of Correction to address the lack of access to clean water in the prison system during the CŠ¾VID-19 pŠ°ndemic.
“Itās obvious, those locked up or working at a correctional facility are going to be at a higher rĪ¹sk of exposure to CŠ¾VID-19,” the rapper stated in a released statement. “At the end of the day, this diseŠ°se aināt to be played with, and everyone should have the basic hygiene necessities to help prevent catching this vĪ¹rus. It only made sense for my foundation (Neighborhood Heroes) to collaborate with Chicago Votes and IDOC.”
In 2023, the foundation organized a “Dinner with Durk” event in Chicago, offering 30 high school students the opportunity to engage with five mayoral candidates to discuss ways to improve their communities.
