Snoop Dogg is facing a copyright lawsuit for posting a viral video on social media
Snoop Dogg is facing a copyright lawsuit for posting a viral video on Instagram earlier this year. According to Billboard, FreedomNews.TV alleges that Snoop Dogg unlаwfully used an “exact copy” of their original video, which depicted a man falling while attempting to climb the JPMorgan Chase Bank headquarters in New York City during an April demonstration. The group behind the protest is described as anti-capitalist.
The lawsuit further claims that Snoop Dogg violated the Digital Millennium Copyright Act by sharing the copyrighted footage without giving credit to FreedomNews.TV. The media outlet alleges that Snoop Dogg intentionally removed copyright information related to the video and failed to include the original video credit, misleading the public into believing he either owned the video or had obtained proper licensing.
This lawsuit against Snoop Dogg comes in the wake of a similar legal action taken by Integral Images against Dua Lipa earlier this year. Integral Images filed a lawsuit over a 2019 Instagram post where Dua Lipa shared a paparazzi photo of herself at an airport. The company sought $150,000 in damages and reimbursement for legal fees, arguing that Dua Lipa used the photo without permission and profited from the post, as she utilizes Instagram as a platform for monetization.
