Since 2006, a controversial picture of Birdman and Lil Wayne kissing has been making the rounds. In a recent interview, the head of Cash Money Records addressed the issue once more. He said, “First of all, I would kiss my son,” on the Big Facts podcast with DJ Scream and Big Bank. “I always saw Wayne as my son, and I always thought that this might be the last time he sees me because I was living on the streets,” he added. Because that’s how I was living. That’s where all of that garbage truly began because I believed that I might not return each night that I left. And even now, Wayne is like a kid to me. When he was nine years old, I took up the role of his father. And I would sacrifice my life—or take a life—for him because I love him like my own.

In other sections of the conversation, Birdman addresses the claims that he defrauded his musicians. At minute eighteen, he added, “I don’t get my feelings in it, but I ain’t never took from no n***a.” “I bless n****s every time. Because I was so young in this crap, I had a few early incidents. I’m not aware of any better. However, I resolved every issue I ran with. I made my n***a payment. Recall that I was young. I am twenty years old, I tell you. So, I’m not sure, but a lot of crap happened early on. Additionally, these white people with whom I am with are not taking care of business.

“Any problem from my son on down, and I gave him $50 million, I cleared it up,” he said, addressing his legal troubles with Wayne in particular. Birdman and Wayne reached an out-of-court settlement for an unknown sum regarding their label and publishing disputes. “I don’t want my name to sound that way, especially with Wayne around. Without this guy, I’m nothing,” he remarked.

Hip-hop icons Juvenile and Mannie Fresh are signed to Cash Money Records, which also gave rise to the storied sub-label Young Money Records, which signed Nicki Minaj and Drake. However, it turns out that before Ye signed a record deal with Roc-a-Fella Records, Birdman had the opportunity to sign Kanye West.

At the 45-minute point of the interview, he stated, “Kanye West was with me before he was Kanye West.” “I let him go because I had Mannie Fresh, even though I knew he was special.” Since Mannie Fresh gave me my start in the music industry, I vowed never to insult him when Kanye approached me to work as a producer. I had to let ‘Ye leave because it was going to be either Fresh or ‘Ye. I flew him to Roc-A-Fella, and he went there. Even though he was residing at my house, we were always close.
