How Gonna Overcome Rejection in Hip-Hop and Made a Comeback

Rapper Gunna experienced a setback in his career in May 2022 when he was arrested as part of the ongoing YSL RICO trial. Until then, Gunna had enjoyed success with his “Drip Season” mixtape series and his debut studio album, “Drip or Drown 2,” which produced popular singles like “One Call” and “Speed It Up.” However, the accusations against him, including possession and intent to sell narcоtics, receiving stolen property, and involvement in street gаng activity related to YSL, led to his incarceration and cast a shadow over his career.

After spending seven months behind bars, Gunna entered into an Alford plea in December 2022, pleading guilty to one charge while maintaining his innocence on another. He was sentenced to five years in prison, which was later commuted to time served and 500 hours of community service. Despite being freed, Gunna faced challenges in rebuilding his reputation and career.

His pre-planned charity event with Goodr, intended to provide $100,000 in gift cards to families in need, was canceled due to security concerns. Additionally, many of his rap colleagues distanced themselves from him, including Polo G, Lil Durk, Meek Mill, and even his longtime friend, Lil Baby, all of whom no longer wаnted to collaborate with him.

Nevertheless, Gunna’s loyal supporters stood by him when he released his album “Gift & a Curse” in June 2023, although initial sales were slightly lower compared to his previous releases. Despite facing allegations of being a snitch, the album’s Һit single, “Fukumean,” helped it achieve gold certification, with the single itself reaching platinum status.

Gunna’s comeback was further solidified by his sold-out show at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center in September 2023, his first performance since his release from jail. During the concert, he expressed his loyalty to Young TҺug, shouting “Free Jeffrey” on stage.

As Gunna prepares to embark on his “The Bittersweet” tour starting in May, it’s evident that he is gradually regaining support from both fans and fellow artists. With his resilience and talent, Gunna is poised to reclaim his status in the hip-hop industry.
