Tahltan bead artist received thanks from rap legendary Ice Cube instead of medallion

Tahltan bead artist Carmen Dennis is still in disbelief after one of her favorite rappers, Ice Cube, wore her handcrafted medallion at a recent concert.

Ice Cube took to Facebook on Tuesday to express his gratitude to Dennis for the intricately beaded medallion featuring his image. He described it as a cherished gift, thanking her for her time and talent.

For Dennis, receiving acknowledgment from one of her musical idols was an overwhelming experience. She described it as “the best feeling ever” and expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support.

The medallion, crafted by Dennis from her home in Dease Lake, British Columbia, gained viral attention after it made its appearance on stage during Ice Cube’s February 20th show in Abbotsford, B.C.

Ice Cube, renowned for his contributions to hip hop with NWA and hits like “Straight Outta Compton” and “It Was a Good Day,” holds a special place in Dennis’s heart as one of her favorite artists.

Driven by her admiration for Ice Cube, Dennis traveled over 1,500 kilometers to attend his concert, accompanied by family and friends. She wore the specially crafted black and white medallion to commemorate the occasion.

Despite initially doubting the medallion would reach the rapper, Dennis’s daughter and niece, who were closer to the stage, encouraged her to pass it to them. The medallion garnered attention from the crowd and ultimately caught Ice Cube’s eye during his performance of “Today Was A Good Day.”

In a heartwarming moment captured on video, Ice Cube graciously accepted the medallion from Dennis’s daughter, wearing it proudly for the remainder of the song. Dennis described the moment as exhilarating, leaving her shaking with joy.

Looking ahead, Dennis hopes to attend another Ice Cube show in Prince George, B.C., in April, closer to her hometown. She remains grateful for the surreal experience and the overwhelming support she has received.

Ice Cube’s upcoming shows for his Straight Into Canada tour continue to draw anticipation and excitement from fans across the country.
