Ice Cube Reflects on the Significance of Lench Mob Member Shorty in New Documentary

Ice Cube takes a heartfelt look back at the life of Da Lench Mob rapper Shorty, offering sincere praise for his friend in a recently released documentary.

The documentary, titled “Comin’ Up Short,” provides an in-depth exploration of the journey of the late rapper, whose real name was Jerome Muhammad. It chronicles his transition from being involved in gang activity to becoming a respected figure in the rap community and a leader within his community. What makes this documentary particularly unique is that it is narrated by Shorty himself.

Speaking in a clip from the film, Ice Cube shares his admiration for Shorty’s dedication and loyalty, stating, “When my man Shorty joined us in Da Lench Mob, I knew we had a real soldier with us. One thing about Shorty is, he always gave 100 percent with everything he did. So you know, whether it was rollin’ with the homies, he gave 100 percent. Rollin’ with Da Lench Mob, he gave 100 percent. Rollin’ with Islam, he gave 100 percent.” Cube further emphasizes Shorty’s role as their conscience, guiding them towards a better path and advising them on the pitfalls to avoid.

In addition to his appearance in the documentary, Ice Cube serves as one of its executive producers. “Comin’ Up Short,” which has been making rounds on the festival circuit since 2021, is now available for streaming on Amazon Prime.

Shorty, who passed away in 2019 due to kidney and liver failure at the age of 51, left behind a legacy survived by seven children, two grandchildren, his mother, an older brother, and a younger sister. Despite his untimely death, his impact on the rap community and his role within Da Lench Mob continue to be celebrated.
