Dr. Dre is set to receive a new Grammy honoring the Lifetime Achievement Award, along with fellow N.W.A. members, recognizing their exceptional contributions to the music industry and artistic significance. The Recording Academy will celebrate the influential role played by N.W.A. in shaping culture during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Founded by Eazy-E, N.W.A. included prominent figures such as Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, MC Ren, DJ Yella, and Arabian Prince, elevating Compton, California, into the mainstream entertainment landscape.

While the collective  N.W.A. never received Grammy Awards as a unit, their impact has garnered substantial recognition over the past decade. Acknowledgments from prestigious institutions like the Rock & Roll Hall of Fаme, The Library of Congress, and The Grammy Hall of Fаme have reinforced their cultural significance. In 2024, the Recording Academy continues this acclaim by awarding N.W.A. the esteemed Lifetime Achievement Award.

Despite Dr. Dre individually securing seven Grammy wins, the recognition marks a significant moment for Eazy, Cube, Ren, and Yella, who have not received this prestigious accolade from the Academy before.

The award ceremony is slated for February 3 at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles, California, a few miles from Compton, N.W.A.’s birthplace.

According to the Academy’s criteria, the Lifetime Achievement Award is granted to “performers who, during their lifetimes, have made creative contributions of outstanding artistic significance to the field of recording.” The recipients for 2024 also include Donna Summer, Gladys Knight, Tammy Wynette, Laurie Anderson, and The Clark Sisters, as determined by votes from the Recording Academy’s National Trustees.
