While Rob49 gained recognition for his notable appearance on “TOPIA TWINS” alongside Travis Scott and 21 Savage, the 25-year-old rapper is far from a newcomer to the scene.

Originating from New Orleans, Rob49 boasts a portfolio of projects under his belt, including the acclaimed 2022 mixtape “Welcome To Vulture Island” and this summer’s “4GOD II.”

These releases feature a star-studded lineup of collaborators, including Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, Icewear Vezzo, Trippie Redd, and Lil Durk, among others.

Adding a significant name to his roster, Rob49 has collaborated with none other than Lil Wayne, a stalwart of the New Orleans rap scene, to deliver a powerful hometown anthem titled “Wassam Baby.”

Despite nearly two decades separating the NOLA rappers, “Wassam Baby” seamlessly blends two eras of the city’s sound. Reflecting on his admiration for Lil Wayne, Rob49 recalls listening to him in high school, particularly during the “Sorry 4 The Wait 2” era in the gym.

The collaboration had been in the works for a while, with Rob49 expressing his desire to create a song with Wayne to Mack Maine, eventually receiving a call from Maine that Wayne was interested. The result was the creation of “Wassam Baby,” a track that the artists felt needed a touch from someone representing New Orleans.

Clocking in at just over two minutes, “Wassam Baby” embraces its New Orleans roots with a contagious, bouncy beat and confident bars. Growing up in New Orleans, Rob49 emphasizes the city’s rich musical heritage, attributing his time playing drums in a jazz band as a significant influence on his music.

Having spent time with NOLA heavyweight Birdman, Rob49 reveals that Cash Money Records sought to sign him even before any other label approached him. He also credits G Herbo as a major artistic influence, making a pact with the Chicago rapper to include him in every project he releases.

Looking ahead, the emerging rapper anticipates a project slated for later this year that he believes will solidify his presence on the map. Asserting himself as the up-and-coming force set to take over the game, Rob49 maintains a realist perspective, acknowledging past setbacks but expressing confidence in his current trajectory.
