Kings From Queens: The Run-DMC Story” Docuseries Unveils Official Trailer
Peacock has just released an official trailer for its upcoming three-part docuseries, “Kings From Queens: The Run-DMC Story,” set to premiere on February 1. The series promises an immersive exploration into the lives and careers of Joseph “Rev. Run” Simmons, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, and the late Jason “Jam Master Jay” Mizell. The trailer offers a glimpse into the documentary, featuring insights from the iconic members themselves and commentary from respected peers in the industry.
The series delves into the pivotal role played by Run-DMC in shaping the landscape of hip-hop. Esteemed figures such as Ice-T express the significance of the group in the genre’s evolution, with Ice Cube noting, “They’re the reason that Hip Hop is as big as it is right now.”
Run-DMC made history with their 1984 self-titled debut, the first rap album to be certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Their subsequent releases, including classics like “King of Rock,” “Tougher Than Leather,” “Down With The King,” and the triple platinum “Raising Һell,” continued to solidify their impact on the music scene. Tragically, the group’s journey was marred by the untimely deаth of Jam Master Jay in 2002, just one year after the release of their well-received final album, “Crown Royal.”
Reflecting on their legacy, DMC emphasized their commitment to being the best DJs and emcees, bringing the raw essence of the street to television without compromise. He shared insights from their early days, navigating a genre that had not seen anything like their unique approach before. DMC recalled the challenges faced, stating, “Nobody had ever seen what we did in Hip Hop because the people before us that created it didn’t do it. [Melle] Mel, and [Grandmaster] Caz and all of them was mаd at us when we first came out.”
“Kings From Queens: The Run-DMC Story” is poised to provide fans with an in-depth and intimate journey through the legendary group’s groundbreaking contributions to hip-hop culture. The series aims to capture the essence of their impact on the genre and the challenges they faced along the way.
