Rapper Snoop Dogg and NFL player Derwin James from the Los Angeles Chargers have joined forces with Beyond Meat to offer complimentary plant-based meals to the Los Angeles community through specially customized food trucks.
Commencing on Friday, September 24, the Snoop truck plans to bring unexpected joy to consumers by providing free dinners at a high school football game every week for six weeks across the greater Los Angeles area.
Additionally, the Snoop truck will make appearances at SYFL (Snoop Youth Football League) games, distributing complimentary food to the community over the same six-week period.
Both Snoop Dogg and Derwin James actively participated in designing the aesthetics of their respective trucks and collaborated with chefs to curate the flavors and composition of their plant-based products.
While Snoop Dogg isn’t strictly vegan, he has been a proponent of a plant-based lifestyle and has invested in Beyond Meat. Beyond Meat, a Los Angeles-based company founded in 2009, specializes in producing plant-based meat substitutes. By March 2021, Beyond Meat products were available in around 118,000 retail outlets across more than 80 countries globally.
According to Snoop Dogg, adopting a plant-based diet is a positive step towards improving personal health and contributing to the well-being of the planet.
Actor and rapper Jaden Smith initiated a similar philanthropic effort in 2019, which received widespread acclaim from his community. In May, Smith announced the opening of his “I Love You Restaurant,” a vegan establishment that offers meals to individuals experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles’ Skid Row area. This project is an expansion of the vegan food truck with the same name that he launched in 2019 on his 21st birthday, distributing I Love You bowls filled with carrots and kale to approximately 8,000 people in the neighborhood.
