Lil Wayne Says He Stopped Writing Down His Rap Lyrics Because Of Jay-Z

Thanks to Jay-Z, Lil Wayne’s rap career was permanently altered!

Lil Wayne, whose full name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., opened up and revealed some unseen tales about his early ascent to fame and popularity in a recent interview with “The Pivot Podcast.” The 40-year-old rapper also talked about important rappers that influenced his career as a performer in the music business. During the conversation, Lil Wayne discussed his favorite rappers and disclosed that 53-year-old rap mogul Jay-Z encouraged him to quit writing rhymes down on paper. When one of the hosts asked Wayne if Jay-Z had been an inspiration, he replied, “When I heard [Jay-Z doesn’t write], I stopped.” I stopped the moment I heard it. Ask him about it if you would. “Man, I heard that n*gga Jay-Z doesn’t write more,” was my first thought upon hearing it. The final instance I rapped something off of paper was when we performed “10,000 Bars” in the Raj Smoove studio.

“First of all, you have to keep in mind that I was a child. I used to spend every day as a child f*cking Astroworld. They are unaware of that. They were accustomed to it, spending the entire day in the office doing nothing but talking to whichever fan was phoning the office number while the phone rang. That was the best part; I’m having a great time.” To me, this feels like Disneyland. I return to school with my fellow eleven-year-old friends in the company of actual rappers who can rhyme.
