N.W.A to Headline Exclusive Show in Perth on Australia Day Long Weekend
Hip-hop legends N.W.A are set to deliver an inter-generational performance exclusively in Perth on the Australia Day long weekend, marking a significant achievement for Western Australia’s music scene.
Following their resurgence in popularity in 2015 with the release of the biopic “Straight Outta Compton,” which portrayed the group’s origin story, the 2024 show will showcase a mix of original members and special guests.
Founding member DJ Yella will team up with Lil Eazy-E, the son of the iconic Eazy-E, and New York-based performer M.I.M.S, creating a nostalgic showcase for rap fans that transcends generations.
The group vows to transport the rap anthems of yesteryear from the West Coast to the West Coast, with DJ Yella bringing the classic sounds of Compton to Perth’s Metro City precinct.
The announcement was shared with fans worldwide on Instagram by DJ Yella, leaving some surprised that the group would travel to Perth rather than more proximate North American cities.
One user expressed disbelief, saying, “How does Australia get these good shows and not Philly? I don’t get it.” An East Coast-based fan inquired, “Will you be coming to Sydney?”
Following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Lil Eazy-E is expected to infuse a contemporary twist into beloved classics, bridging the gap between the golden era of hip-hop and the present.
N.W.A was originally formed in 1987, featuring notable artists Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. The group launched its debut album, “Straight Outta Compton,” in 1988.
Local fans have the option to purchase general admission tickets for $59.95 to the 18+ event or a VIP Baller Booth for $1800, which includes 10 VIP tickets and 4 premium bottles of select spirits.
Scheduled for January 27 at Metro City, this show is currently the only planned appearance in Australia for the group. The Straight Outta Compton – West Coast Tour Perth is presented by IEBF Events, with all proceeds benefiting the IEBF Aboriginal Corporation Charity.
