The trailer for the sports comedy “The Underdoggs,” featuring Snoop Dogg, has been released by Amazon and MGM.
Originally scheduled for a theatrical release in January, the film faced delays in its release dates in 2023, eventually being directed straight to streaming. The transition to streaming might raise questions about the film’s quality.
“The Underdoggs” revolves around Jaycen “Two Js” Jennings, a former pro football star on a downward spiral who is assigned community service coaching a disorderly pee-wee football team in his hometown. The storyline suggests a potential turnaround for Jennings, reminiscent of classic sports comedies like “Mighty Ducks.”
Snoop Dogg plays the lead role alongside Tika Sumpter, Andrew Schulz, Mike Epps, and George Lopez. Despite the familiar theme, the trailer leaves a less-than-enthusiastic impression, raising doubts about the film’s quality.
Directed by Charles Stone III and written by Danny Segal and Isaac Schamis, “The Underdoggs” is produced by Kenya Barris, Mychelle Deshamps, Jonathan Glickman, Constance Schwartz-Morini, and Snoop Dogg. The movie is set to stream on Amazon Prime Video starting January 26th, 2023. Whether audiences are excited to see it or not remains uncertain.
