Travis Scott shares his new Psychedelic Rock Phase, Dior and Diamonds for the first time

Travis Scott has added another successful collaboration to his repertoire, this time teaming up with Dior’s artistic director for men’s wear, Kim Jones, to design the spring 2022 collection. This partnership marks a significant moment for Dior as it’s the first time the fashion house has collaborated on a full collection with a musician.

The collection was unveiled in Paris, featuring a physical runway show with a set that perfectly encapsulated the collaborative spirit.

The stage showcased a desert-like backdrop adorned with oversized blooms inspired by Christian Dior’s garden, alongside cacti symbolizing Travis Scott’s Texas roots and his creative collective, Cactus Jack.

Influenced by the work on his highly anticipated sequel to the bestselling album “Astroworld,” Scott shared, “I’m in this new album mode where it’s like psychedelic rock. So even just like the field of cactuses and mushrooms, you might get tripped out.”

The collaboration between Scott and Jones, who have known each other for some time, began last year when the rapper became the face of the Air Dior capsule collection developed by the French fashion house in partnership with Jordan Brand.

The collection, a result of six months of collaboration, features a fresh interpretation of the Dior Oblique logo spelling out “Jack” and a Western-style double Saddle bag with a stirrup handle. Scott expressed his enthusiasm for the tailoring, emphasizing the house’s remarkable speed of execution.

Scott’s unique approach combines high-end couture with casual street style, reflecting his personal taste. The collection includes motifs ranging from Cactus Jack’s hand-drawn graphics to python prints. Scott explained, “I just tried to take some of the textures of what you might see in my backyard on an everyday basis. I wanted to make something that felt like you can wear it on the street every day, but it still has some type of way that you can wear it in and out of a major building, or to the bodega — so we just took that journey.”

The collaboration extends beyond fashion, with Dior auctioning off four hand-painted white shirts by artist George Condo. The proceeds will benefit the fashion program created through the partnership between Scott’s Cactus Jack Foundation and The New School’s Parsons School of Design.

Jones praised Scott’s ability to connect with young consumers, citing his leadership and unique approach that spans diverse sectors of society. Scott’s success in blending collaborations with Dior and McDonald’s highlights his versatility and individuality in the world of fashion and music.
