Cardi B and Offset recently found themselves in a concerning situation when an unidentified individual posing as a journalist approached their home in the affluent Atlanta suburb of Sandy Springs. In an undated video that circulated widely on Thursday (November 23), the man can be seen attempting to film the couple’s residence.
Security guards stationed at the property initially requested the man to leave, with one guard even placing his hand in front of the camera to prevent further filming. When the trespasser persisted, the security team contacted local law enforcement for assistance.
Upon the police’s arrival, the man continued to claim he was a journalist, falsely asserting that the First Amendment allowed him to “walk down the street and record.” He went on to threаten the police officer, stating his intention to obtain the officer’s personal information, citing it as public record.
The so-called journalist, who remаins unidentified, was eventually removed by the police. The incident raised concerns about the safety and privacy of the celebrity couple.
According to the Reporter’s Committee for the Freedom of the Press, the First Amendment right to record only applies to filming government officials in public places, such as police conduct on public property in Georgia. However, this right does not extend to recording private property or celebrities in non-public spaces.
Georgia state law also prohibits the use of a camera to observe, photograph, or record activities in private places without the consent of all individuals involved, as outlined in Ga. Code Ann. § 16-11-62(2).
As of the current update, it remаins unclear whether the man posing as a journalist has been arrested or will face charges for trespassing. It is also uncertain if Cardi B and Offset plan to pursue legal action against the trespasser.
This incident followed another legal matter involving Cardi B, where her voice was cloned for a video promoting a fraudulent stimulus scаm. The rapper expressed her frustration on Twitter, noting another lawsuit falling into her lap and emphasizing the challenges posed by artificial intelligence.
