Lil Durk has responded to Drake’s mention of him in a recent collaboration with Young Thug. In the track “Oh U Went” from Young Thug’s album Business Is Business, Drake’s verse recalls an interaction with a woman who allegedly gave Durk a suggestive look. Addressing the lyrics in a recent MSNBC interview, Durk expressed optimism, stating, “I hope so; I’ll feel more confident and more happy with myself.”
When questioned about the accuracy of Drake’s recollection, Durk indicated trust in Drake’s account, saying, “If he said it, he seen it.” The two artists have maintained a close relationship in recent years, with Durk contributing guest verses to Drake’s singles like “Laugh Now Cry Later” in 2020 and “In the Bible” from the 2021 album Certified Lover Boy.
Despite the camaraderie, Durk hasn’t shied away from asserting his popularity, even expressing a desire to be “bigger than Drake” in a previous statement. In a 2022 podcast appearance, he elaborated on this, emphasizing the impact he and his music have on people, asserting that within his community, they consider themselves to be on par with or even surpassing Drake’s influence.
Durk acknowledges Drake’s ability to connect with the youth and elevate their visibility but emphasizes the unique impact he believes he has within his own community. Despite any competitive undertones, Durk maintains respect for Drake and acknowledges the positive influence the Toronto rapper has had on many.
