Where Are The Members of N.W.A. Now?

N.W.A. was the iconic rap group of the 1980s, consisting of original members Ice Cube (O’Shea Jackson), Dr. Dre (Andre Young), Eazy-E (Eric Wright), DJ Yella (Antoine Carraby), and MC Ren (Lorenzo Jerald Patterson).

Their first album addressed police brutality, racism, and injustice. The biopic “Straight Outta Compton” highlighted their story, coinciding with protests in Ferguson. After the movie’s success, it’s time to check in on the surviving members.

 

Dr. Dre (Then):

Dr. Dre began as the DJ for World Class Wreckin’ Cru and later joined N.W.A.

He left N.W.A., co-founded Death Row Records, and later formed Aftermath Entertainment.

Dre signed Eminem, 50 Cent, The Game, and Kendrick Lamar, becoming a music mogul.

Co-founded Beats by Dre and sold Beats Electronics to Apple for $3 billion in 2015.

Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment continues to thrive.

He is recognized as the richest rapper following the Beats Electronics deal.

Ice Cube (Then):

Ice Cube, a founding N.W.A. member, started in the group C.I.A.

After leaving N.W.A., he had a successful solo career and formed Westside Connection.

His albums “AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted” and “Death Certificate” are hip-hop classics.

Ice Cube (Now):

Ice Cube transitioned into acting, starring in major films like “Boyz n the Hood” and “Barbershop.”

 

DJ Yella (Then):

DJ Yella, with Dr. Dre, was part of World Class Wreckin’ Cru before joining N.W.A.

 

He went solo in 1996 and later retired from music.

DJ Yella (Now):

Yella directed adult movies, came out of retirement, and is working on a new album.

 

MC Ren (Then):

MC Ren joined N.W.A. in 1987 and played a bigger writing role after the group’s changes.

Released solo albums on Ruthless Records after N.W.A.’s breakup.

MC Ren (Now):

Post-N.W.A., Ren explored film production and occasionally makes cameos.

 

Arabian Prince (Then):

Arabian Prince left N.W.A. early, pursuing a solo career.

Arabian Prince (Now):

Fought N.W.A. for royalties, performs as Professor X, and DJs in Los Angeles.

 

Eazy-E (Then):

Eazy-E, a Compton native, founded Ruthless Records and had a solo career.

A dispute with Ice Cube and Dr. Dre led to accusations of fund misappropriation.

 

Eazy-E (After N.W.A.):

Eazy-E had a brief solo career and passed away due to AIDS-related complications in 1995.

He is memorialized in various rap songs, and April 7 is Eazy-E Day in Compton, California.
