February 20, 2024, is a date that Ice Cube enthusiasts in Abbotsford won’t want to miss. The renowned rapper, celebrated songwriter, and co-founder of N.W.A. is set to bring his “Straight Into Canada” tour to the Abbotsford Centre on the mentioned day.
This upcoming performance marks the second time the Los Angeles-born artist will take the stage in the Fraser Valley. He previously headlined the ‘Wack April 12 rap show’ in Chilliwack back in 2011.
Ice Cube, whose real name is O’Shea Jackson, played a pivotal role in forming N.W.A. alongside Eazy E and Dr. Dre in 1987. He served as the group’s lead rapper and penned the majority of their lyrics. In 1989, he departed from the group to embark on a successful solo career, during which he has released 11 albums and sold over 10 million copies. His contributions to music earned him a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.
In addition to his illustrious music career, Ice Cube is a well-known figure in the film industry. He made his cinematic debut with the 1991 film “Boyz n the Hood” and went on to star in the “Friday” series, “Anaconda,” “Three Kings,” the “Barbershop” movies, “21 Jump Street,” and many more. Furthermore, he directed the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary titled “Straight Outta L.A.,” which delved into the history of the Raiders’ time in Los Angeles and Oakland and the emergence of gangsta rap in the region.
Abbotsford and Penticton (on February 21) are the sole British Columbia stops on his tour. Ice Cube will also be making stops in Calgary, Enoch, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Rama, and Saint John.
Tickets for the general public go on sale this Friday, November 10, at 10 a.m. Don’t miss the opportunity to witness this legendary artist in action.
