At the Billboard Music Awards on May 23, when Drake collected the Artist of the Decade award, he was joined onstage by his son Adonis, who has been staying with him in Los Angeles for at least the past two weeks. Along with the everyday moments, this is the kind of thing a parent would want their child to experience. Not that I expect anything to be typical. Going to basketball games, especially playoff games, isn’t really out of the ordinary in Drake’s world. He may usually be found on the NBA bench. However, his guest of honor this time was someone special.
Here’s Adonis arriving at yesterday’s Game 6 between the Lakers and the Suns with his dad reppin’ Lakers #23 and Drake, who is pals with LeBron James. This photo means so much to Drake that he shared it on his own Instagram story:
Isn’t that adorable?
Drake didn’t sit with Adonis next to him the entire game—perhaps for safety reasons—but Adonis wasn’t alone; he had his tiny truck for company.
I love how amazed he appears to be at the massive screen above him. I’m curious if he’ll remember it after 10, 15, or even 20 years.
Drake’s Certified Lover Boy, originally scheduled for release in January, has been delayed till an unspecified future date. There is currently no set release date, but Drake is well aware of the anticipation around the project.
This decade’s Artist of the Decade is notorious for chronic tardiness. Drake is notoriously tardy. This is never an issue because his past successes speak for themselves, and he has no one to account to for being rushed. In and of itself, that’s formidable. Can you picture yourself free from the pressure of fulfilling deadlines? Having nothing to worry about turning in or finishing on its due date is a constant source of fantasy for me.
