When accepting the Artist of the Decade award at tonight’s Billboard Music Awards, Drake brought his three-year-old son Adonis on stage with him. As Drake gave his speech, Adonis stayed close by, holding his father’s hand as they made their way to the podium. They’re attending their first ceremony as a duo:
Drake, in a touching display of fatherly love, raised his son in the air at the end of his speech. Drake expressed his gratitude to his son, who was holding the trophy, by saying, “I want to dedicate my award to you.”
Drake’s son Adonis was born in October 2017, to ex-girlfriend Sophie Brussaux. Drake posted the first photo of him and Adonis together in March of last year. As the world went into quarantine due to the spread of the coronavirus, he sent an honest caption to the outside world:
In June of 2018, Drake made the revelation that he was Adonis’ father on the song “Emotionless.” Listen to the way we live, he rapped, “I wasn’t hiden’ my kid from the world.” A lot of things in life I kept from my child / From lifeless bodies that have woken up in order to argue / You’ll never understand / Until you stare into the eyes of your own spawn. I don’t check the blogs for any “breaking news” in my life. In other words, “I only want to tell the people I can call.”
